Tip of the Day:
Something to keep in mind. When planning out your pergola project, you will need to consider the lengths of conventional lumber. Lumber comes in lengths of 8', 10', 12', 16', 20' and 24'. So, if you want to build a pergola with the top dimensions being 12'x12' using 12' boards then your post dimensions would be 9'x9' with the top overhangs measuring 17-1/2" on each side from the post. If you wanted your post dimensions to be 10'x10' then you would have to end up using 16' boards with a lot of waste.
Happy building!
